U.B. Dining Services Uniform/Appearance Requirements

For Hourly Personnel

Often, the first impression students and other guests have of our organization is through our employees. Consequently, uniforms must be neat and clean at all times. We will launder furnished uniforms if you so desire. All employees are expected to be well groomed, clean, and odor free. Please note the following information:

Beards - Not allowed in food service units, no matter how good it looks!

Moustaches - Allowed if neatly trimmed and conservative in nature.

Hair - Must be clean and restrained by cap during service hours.

Piercings - Facial piercings of any kind are not allowed.

Fingernails - Clean and trimmed. No long or decorative artificial nails that may fall off.

Jewelry - Must be minimal to insure safety and sanitation. Wrist watches or wedding rings are fine, but no other jewelry is allowed except for non-dangling earrings.

Shirts - Only prescribed uniform shirts are allowed, but they're knit and very comfortable! Cooks and Bakers wear chef's coat, cook's shirt, or blue collared polo shirt. All other employees wear the blue polo shirt, clean and tucked in.

Pants - Cooks and Bakers wear checked, white, or black work pants. All other employees wear black work pants. Must be worn at waistline, not lower. Cannot be excessively long or wide, for safety reasons. You will be responsible for providing your own black work pants until you complete your probationary period and are in the union.

Caps - These cover bad hair days! Must be worn with brims forward. No do-rags underneath, or excessive buttons, pins, etc. Cannot "perch" on top of hair.

Name Tags - Must be worn on shirt and visible at all times. Don't you want to work where everybody knows your name?

Shoes - Closed heel and toe, with non-slip soles, and socks. Sneakers are fine.
